Fertility in MenHow old for a man considered too old to have children? Do men also have restrictions as well as women in terms of fertility? Check out the explanation.

In contrast to women, men do not have a “deadline” for having children. Although the quality, quantity, and movement of sperm dropped dramatically at the age of 50 years, quite a lot of men who could impregnate a woman many years thereafter.

Charlie Chaplin is one such example. He had another baby at the age of 73 years. There is also Tony Randall who had two children at the end of the age of 70 years. Another example is a farmer from India named Nanu Ram Jogi who managed to have a child at age 90 in 2007.

However, it does not mean men do not have problems with fertility. Male fertility will be reduced every decade, especially after he was aged over 35 years. The number of sperm aged 50-80 years compared to only 75 percent of men aged 20-50 years.

Swimming ability of sperm is also reduced with age. Sperm mobility is best at age 25 and lowest at the age of 55. 35-55 years of age, sperm mobility is reduced to 54 percent, no matter how much he had sex.
However, that should be of concern is the quality of sperm when a man turns the age of 50 years. If fertilization occurs the egg at this age, likely the child is born will have birth defects or health problems.

Until today scientific research has shown that, the older the father as a child, the greater the risk of having a child with Down syndrome, schizophrenia, autism, and other genetic diseases. The risk of the mother to have a miscarriage is also higher.

In other words, although male fertility is not affected as women age, there are factors that decrease the quality of health of babies will be born.
