CholesterolHigh levels of bad cholesterol must be avoided so that the risk of coronary heart disease and stroke can be avoided. But you should be vigilant in choosing cholesterol-lowering drugs. A study showed that cholesterol-lowering drugs known as statins actually increase the risk of diabetes mellitus.

The study was conducted involving 33 thousand volunteers who used statins at moderate to high doses. There are five separate studies done on them. However, among the volunteers is not one who was diagnosed with diabetes.

From the results of these studies note that for every 498 subjects in the high-dose statin users in a year, one of them at risk of diabetes than those who use it in moderate doses.

On the other hand, researchers found a benefit of user groups in the high-dose statin. That group is less likely to experience cardiovascular problems than those using statins naturally.

The researchers suggest that doctors should re-assess the overall risks and benefits of statin use, making it easier for the patient to facilitate more secure arrangement cholesterol.

Researchers hope that these findings will encourage the development of safer-related effects of statins. One important thing that must be considered in an effort to decrease cholesterol is the importance of regular exercise and low-salt diet with the amount of saturated fat. If this fails, then switch to the use of drugs.
