Less Sleep Can Boost Blood Sugar
This article is one of evidence of the benefits of sleep for health. Research shows that quality and adequate sleep can help stabilize blood sugar. That is why people with diabetes are advised to arrange his sleep patterns.
In the journal of Diabetes Care, researchers from the University of Chicago revealed that diabetic patients have poor sleep patterns have higher glucose levels and more difficult to control the disease.
Researchers have compared the 40 patients with diabetes mellitus with 531 healthy people. The researchers wanted to know the potential link between quality of sleep, blood sugar levels and other markers that show diabetes control. According to Knutson Christian who is one of the researchers said that in people with diabetes, there is links between poor sleep quality with a high blood sugar levels. That link we do not get in people without diabetes.
For his research is to monitor sleep Knutson respondents by placing the monitor that is placed in the hands of the activity. The team found that people with diabetes who experience sleep disorders have a fasting blood sugar levels 23 percent higher, fasting insulin levels 48 percent higher and insulin resistance 82 percent higher compared with the diabetes but normal sleep patterns.
Responding to the results of such research, Dr.Joel Zonszein, director of Clinical Diabetic Center, in New York, USA, said the link between glucose levels and sleep patterns like “egg and chicken”. It is difficult to determine whether high blood sugar levels caused by poor sleep quality or patients who have high glucose levels are not able to sleep well, or there are other causes.
Dr.Joel Zonszein also suggests that people with diabetes are usually obese and overweight would interfere with sleep quality. Obesity is also associated with sleep apnea or stopped breathing briefly during sleep.
However Dr.Joel Zonszein and Kristen Knutson agreed that people with diabetes should pay more attention to sleep patterns. Reducing stress is one way to get to sleep soundly.
