Several Ways to Protect Your Eyes from Computer Dangers
If you spend two hours or more in front of a computer screen, then you are at risk of suffering from computer vision syndrome (CVS) or a collection of visual symptoms after staring at a computer or other electronic display such as television, mobile phone or tablet PC for several hours without interruption.
Symptoms of computer vision syndrome include headache, impaired focus, feels hot and burning eyes, blurred vision, until the pain in the shoulder or neck. This is because the eyes are forced too hard to see the computer screen so that the eyes of experienced tension (eye strain).
To protect your sense of sight, there are some things you can do is:
1. Use adequate lighting.
Most office space using bright lighting, but if the light does not mean the better because of excessive light just added strain on the eye.
If you are around there is a window, use curtains to minimize the incoming light. If you want to save energy you can turn off room lights and using natural light from the sun.
2. Adjust the lighting on the monitor screen.
One simple way to reduce your eye strain is to set the brightness (brightness) and contrast on the screen. There is no right or wrong settings, stay tailored to your eye comfort.
3. Adjust font size and color.
Unlike ordinary letters on paper, on the computer screen the letters are composed of dots or pixels. So, to see the letters on the screen, the eyes must continue to work, resulting in tension. Set the font size and color can prevent excessive eye strain. Another way is plus the size of the letters so clearly legible without leaning forward.
4. Take a Break
A day in front of the monitor screen would cause fatigue. The National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health recommends those workers who spend time in front of the computer to take a break of five minutes to one hour of your time at the computer. Meanwhile, the American Optometric Association recommends 15-minute break for every two hours for the eye to relax.
5. Keeping the distance eyes.
Staring at the letter on plain paper and then switch to the computer screen continuously will cause strain on the eye. To prevent this, hold the paper to be read as close to the monitor screen or hang it on the side of the screen.
