Skin Disease, Some Frequently Attacking Babies

Skin disease can affect anyone, whether male, female, adults, children and even babies. This is caused by skin anatomy is very different from adults; infants are very vulnerable age group of skin diseases.
Bernard Cohen, MD, director of the child’s skin health sciences from Johns Hopkins Children’s Center say that the skin is an organ to act as a bulwark against the various elements that threaten your body from sunlight through bacterium.

Here are some common types of skin disease that are often found in infants:
- Intertrigo. Intertrigo is a skin disease refers to an inflammation of the folds of the body. It is usually located in the inner thighs, armpits, and the bottom of the breast or stomach. The folds of the skin appear red, itchy and cause pain if there is friction. Generally occurs in infants who are obese. Intertrigo can be caused by excessive moisture in the skin folds of babies and never get air. That can be done to prevent intertrigo is to wash the inside folds of baby’s skin with water and apply a barrier cream, zinc oxide or petroleum jelly to protect baby’s skin.
- Prickly heat. Prickly heat, or better known as malaria, commonly occur on the neck, face, back, or buttocks baby. - Eczema. Eczema is a skin disease that can appear anywhere on the body start from age 3 to 4 months, although very rarely found in the former use of diapers. Contact dermatitis will cause a major rash, itching and burning. If rash occurs on your baby’s entire body, then the soap or detergent may be one cause. If the chest and arms are exposed, the perpetrators could be from a dirty shirt. In cases of mild and moderate, avoidance of irritants (irritant) and the use of creams containing hydrocortisone (a corticosteroid) can help reduce itching and redness in the skin. In severe cases, drugs taken and type of anti-inflammatory corticosteroids are needed to reduce inflammation and itching.
