It is not rare stroke occurs when you are asleep. According to the research says that one in seven cases of stroke occurs when the patient is sleeping. That is why a stroke that occurs during sleep is very important to know.

Emergency treatment immediately after the occurrence of stroke is very influential in order to reduce damage caused by the obstruction of blood flow to the brain. Drug called tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) should be given at the hospital every few hours after stroke symptoms first appear. At day time still difficult to know when stroke symptoms appear. But if the stroke attacks at night while the patient is asleep, this could be detrimental.

Therefore, recent research led by one of the scientists from the United States, Jason Mackey, trying to find out when the best time of tissue plasminogen activator therapy for optimal results. The study was conducted on 1854 patients who suffered ischemic stroke and about 14 percent have symptoms of a stroke when they are awake. There are some differences between the strokes at the time of waking with an attack of stroke during sleep. In general, someone who had a stroke at the time of waking is one who has aged and suffered a severe stroke.

The researchers estimate that people who had a stroke while awake can also be overcome with tissue plasminogen activator. They are groups that should be focused in future studies. There is a tendency these strokes occur as soon as they awoke from sleep and people will benefit from this therapy.
