Swelling tongue, What Causes It Happened?

Swelling tongue problems it sometimes feels very disturbing, even very painful event in the time period long enough. Dr. Anna Feldweg of Harvard Medical School, said, tongue swelling generally occurs because of medical problems (treatment) or adverse reactions to medications or allergies.

According to Dr. Anna Feldweg, swelling tongue is a serious condition that required immediate medical care efforts by administering epinephrine.

The following are the most common causes that can trigger swelling tongue.

• Drugs: Most cases of swelling tongue are caused by the reaction of some of certain medications such as ACE-inhibitors used in treating hypertension or NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) such as aspirin and ibuprofen.
• Food allergies: Apart from allergic reactions to medications, swelling tongue can also be caused by allergic reactions to certain foods such as nuts or bee stings.
• Streptococcus Infection: In some fairly rare cases, streptococcus bacteria can cause the swelling tongue. For adequate treatment is given antibiotics.
• Acromegaly: Swelling tongue can also be caused due to acromegaly. Acromegaly is a rare hormonal disorder, which causes overproduction of growth hormone in the pituitary gland. If the disease is not diagnosed and treated at an early stage, can damage vital organs such as kidneys, liver, spleen and pancreas.
• Amyloidosis: Amyloidosis is a metabolic disorder in which there is accumulation of amyloid protein in organs and tissues, causing damage or disease. In extreme cases, amyloidosis can be fatal.
• Angioedema: Angioedema is swelling rapidly from mucosal and sub mucosal tissue. This usually occurs due to allergic reactions to medications, especially in people with high blood pressure. If the swelling is not promptly treated can be at risk of suffocation.
• Down syndrome: People with Down syndrome will usually experience swelling tongue. Down syndrome is a genetic disorder of chromosome 21. Chromosome pair is formed due to the failure of chromosomes to separate from one another during the division that resulted in mental and physical disabilities.
