Edward Jenner was a British scientist who was the first to conduct research on human vaccination for the prevention of smallpox. And already the world should thank the Edward Jenner.

Smallpox is also called a frightening disease because the rates of death and disability all his life. Thanks to Edward Jenner vaccination conducted in 1798, now the disease has disappeared since 1976. Through research and publications, Jenner was appointed as the father of vaccination.

In 1798 Edward Jenner published a publication entitled An Inquiry into the Causes and Effects of the Variolae Vaccinae. Vaccinae word itself means of the cow, while the origin of the word protection against Vaccination is smallpox.

At age 13 Jenner observed the hands of the breeder and dairy farmer who contracted cowpox it is not exposed to variola in the event of an outbreak in his village.

In 1796, Jenner became an apprentice doctor, he took the fluid from cowpox people affected, then scraped in an 8-year-old son, Thomas Phipps. As a result: when an epidemic, Thomas suffered only a mild fever and rash.

Fifty years after Jenner incised smallpox scab on his family and managed to prevent smallpox, deaths due to smallpox pockmarks in the UK dropped dramatically, from 23,000 patients to 5,000 patients a year, because of the discovery.

In 1800 approximately 100,000 people worldwide have received smallpox vaccine. Post-World War II, the World Health Organization (WHO) has managed to control the most deadly virus in the world. At this period North America, South Europe, and some other areas are free of this disease still occurs despite outbreaks in Africa and India.

Then, it acts as the WHO to vaccinate all the country since 1967 so that smallpox can be ELIMINATED from the earth.

How is called this vaccination has become one of the methods of modern public health interventions to prevent morbidity and mortality, especially in children, all over the world.
